The INPL is a scientific and poly-technological university consisting of seven high-level engineering schools and 26 research laboratories. The main aim of the INPL is to educate future engineers and doctors. Each of the seven INPL schools awards one or several engineering diplomas, all validated by the Commission du Titre d’Ingénieur. The INPL hosts three major research laboratories in the field of science and engineering: LSG2M (Scientific Laboratory of Metallic Materials Engineering), LSGS (Scientific Laboratory of Surface Engineering) and LPM (Laboratory of Physics of Matter) which all work in close connection with the CNRS (National Centre of Scientific Research). One of the seven schools is the École Européenne d’Ingénieurs en Génie des Matériaux (EEIGM), which was founded in 1991 as a truly European engineering school to provide a fully integrated education programme in materials science and engineering.
