Research field: Functional materials

Direction 1: Optical thin film waveguide amplifier; photonic crystal waveguide

Integrated optical waveguide amplifier is the key device of optical integrations. It is of important significance to develop conpact, high-gain and low-cost Er-doped optical waveguide amplifiers in wavelengh of 1.5 micrometer, for the promotion of the new generation of fiber communications(i.e., FTTH), and even for the realization of all-optical communications.

Running Projects: Researches on Er-doped oxide films by pulsed laser deposition and light amplifier by photonic crystal waveguide. Supported by NSFC 2005

Direction 2: Degradable biomaterials

Degradable biomaterial such as poly lactic acid (PLA) is a very important biomaterial for the manufacturing of a special kind coronary stents, the third generation of degradable coronary stents that will replace the metal or medicine eluting stents. But as a polymer, the PLA is very weak in strength; therefore some special material and the corresponding processing technological processing techniques should be found for the strengthening of the degradable materials. That is the objective of the following project.
